The annual Alibaba.com Supplier Day was held on 14 November 2012 in Hanoi and 16 November 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City. These two events were the first of their kind and we chose Vietnam because of the growing Alibaba.com member base there as well as the strong international demand for products from Vietnam. The purpose of this event was to educate local SMEs about international trade and introduce ideas to help their export business.
As the world's largest e-commerce portal and a gateway to international trade, Alibaba.com's mission is to make it easier for our members to do business. We strive not only to create business opportunities for SMEs in Vietnam, we also help them do business - empowering them with the necessary knowledge and tools to successfully grow their business in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Alibaba.com Supplier Day in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City attracted a total of 356 attendees from more than 294 companies, guests and media. The morning seminar and afternoon training session targeted two different users groups in order to give the most relevant and useful information. In the morning session, guest speakers shared their insight on topics ranging from ‘How to advantage FTAs’ to industry and e-commerce trends. In the afternoon, an in-depth training tailored for members who operate Gold Supplier accounts was organized.

• The “Be Smart, Be Focused” theme emphasized the fact that those who actively use the Alibaba.com website and respond to buyer inquiries quickly are more successful • Speakers told members how to prepare for the current sourcing requirements of buyers and how to better understand oversea markets and prepare for the challenges in exporting • To give Vietnamese Gold Supplier members the chance to meet each other and share experiences during the coffee break • Members asked our expert panel specific questions about trade during crisis
